Is it just me, or the death penalty for Saddam might not have been the smartest choice ever taken?

And I mean it without even going into all the reservations I have against death penalty in and of itself.

It's utterly pointless. Besides, he still has several more trials (not to mention appeals) before anything is actually decided, sentancing-wise. It's stupid, it's a circus, a mockery and won't bring any justice anyway.
