Since we say the sin but not the sinner: honestly, why some people write men-slash, if they turn the men into women? It wouldn't freak me out half as bad if it was two girls from the start.

Well, it also wouldn't freak me out because probably I wouldn't click the link, as femme-slash doesn't hold all that attractiveness on me, but we don't have to go there.

____

Also, this lj userinfo business. Sorry, but the school I (supposedly) go to is more important than my contact info how, exactly?

I actually like the graphic design, it might not be all that bad. I do pretend to be the one to decide where the various info go, though, as things stand now I'd turn it off without the slightest remorse.

You know, I wish the "old drawings" category wasn't such a sore thumb for me. I cringe and grimace beyond recognition every time I see a notification to comments someone has left on very old stuff.

prejudice or misconception.
i don't belive it's a thing they really think about. They like their characters this way. i'm with you with the 'it freaks me out' thing - "love" and "forever" are sweet words, but used in the wrong way they sound *sick* -
mpreg are another thing...

Also: have you noticed like some fics resemble each other? The thing is - there are too many writers - some of whom do it just because 'the pairing is popular'. You can't write about someone you don't have a serious opinion about. Let me explain: if you're a s/r shipper you'll describe this relationship best - but this shouldn't stop you writing about sirius and snape/luscius/thesortinghat if you have your own thoughs (i'm *not* saying *shipping*) about this other pairing and character too.

i could keep rumbling but it's not like i'm gonna reach a conclusion.
what i mean is: they like it this way - ok, let them belive they're writing the best fic ever... after all they wouldn't like what *you* write.

- and i actually like your graphic desing.
and...hum sorry for the rumblig

Hmm... I wouldn't know. I'm with you on the "not a consious decision" point... but I'm more inclined to think that they simply write what they know - and what they know is how a girl acts and reacts. It's the easy way out.

Thank you, dear! :D

I would love to see that picture. Are Quidditch goalposts wood or metal?

I think a lot of the problem with the over-feminisation of characters is just inexperience on the writer's part. Learning to seperate the author from the characters takes time and effort. Unfortunately, there are enough writers at that stage at the moment that they're reinforcing each other, instead of encouraging each other to improve. It's a very fine line between sweetness and idiocy, especially when you're writing fluffier pieces, and it annoys me to see how many people don't seem to be aware of that. I put extra effort in to avoid falling on the wrong side of that line. It irritates me to see others embracing lazy writing.

Hehehe! I have no idea WHEN I'll do it, though. Surely not one of these days... Thinking of snow would probably too much of a torture right now. ^^;

About the Quidditch goalposts... no idea. I doubt JKR herself knows. :P But to stay on the safe side I might just have them go down to Hogsmeade.

*sighs* yes, I completely agree with you there. And I get what you mean. :)

No?

[identity profile] kasche.livejournal.com 2006-06-20 10:50 am (UTC)(link)
Never, alas! Only swam in the Mediterranean. I've travelled abroad a two-three times, but always in central Europe. :)

Gotcha. Someday then? I miss the ocean something fierce.

why some people write men-slash, if they turn the men into women?

Oh, the eternal question. I think that some people really like the pretty of two guys, but for whatever reason - inexperience, a little suppressed prejudice - they can't really see them as two male people, and impose gender stereotypes to get themselves onto familiar ground. That's my theory. It may be unconscious. I mean - heh - I was accused of writing feminized males, once. So, maybe I don't really know. *shrug*

You know, I wish the "old drawings" category wasn't such a sore thumb for me. I cringe and grimace beyond recognition every time I see a notification to comments someone has left on very old stuff.

I get that with fan fiction too. It's funny when people critique really old - like, pre-OotP - stuff. Hi, that was two books and three years ago! Yes, my interpretation changed! ;)

[identity profile] kasche.livejournal.com 2006-06-20 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
I mean - heh - I was accused of writing feminized males, once. So, maybe I don't really know. *shrug*
No, really? *blinks* I didn't get that feeling while reading your stories.

Uuuuh, that! I started adding dates to submissions outside lj for exactly that reason. I have to suppress the urge to apologize for the pic every time I reply.

[identity profile] thistlerose.livejournal.com 2006-06-20 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. We all have different interpretations, I guess. Or maybe she was just being mean. :P

I started adding dates to submissions outside lj for exactly that reason

I've always done that, and it's surprising how many people gloss over it. Tsk, tsk.

[identity profile] croupier.livejournal.com 2006-06-18 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't understand what you mean re: turn them into women? I don't know, I kind of think gender should be as explored as sexuality is in fandom. Like Riley from Buffy? Lesbian trapped in a man's body, totally. But I haven't read any fic that queers his gender (probably because I'm not looking that hard for it?). ANYWAY.

[identity profile] kasche.livejournal.com 2006-06-20 11:39 am (UTC)(link)
Hehehe! But gender is explored, I've seen a number of gender-switch potions. ;D

And - I don't really know who Riley is, I've seen a grand total of two episodes of Buffy. I think. ^^;

I call it

[identity profile] spacedye-vest.livejournal.com 2006-06-19 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Mary Sue-ism. They're always 'oh so identified with Remus!' and they love Sirius, then they write the hot, handsome, cool guy shagging the Author Remus.

Sometimes, even authors who aren't bad writers do that, and they always always say how much they're like Remus (or Sirius, but Remus is their fav target, moon cycle and all I guess).
I always wish I could tell them 'darling the fact that you think you're a lot like Remus doesn't mean you are Remus'. But you know I avoid wank, I just like to read F_W not to be a part of it.

Bruni on TV? I want to know more about that and about the celebrity you met, who was it?

Re: I call it

[identity profile] kasche.livejournal.com 2006-06-20 11:40 am (UTC)(link)
Poor Remus. Apparently he resembles a good half of the world's population.

Yeah, and I usually find it quite funny, but something rubbed me really the wrong way this time(s. I probablt). Maybe it was seeing them crying at the slightest thing. And Sirius feeling like someone had crucioed his heart. That was a real pearl.

(or Sirius, but Remus is their fav target, moon cycle and all I guess)
Oh god! :D You made me remember a very old story, I don't know who wrote it, but it had Remus having... Pre-Moon-Tension? Something like that? They heard me laugh in Eastern Russia.

Oh, it was really nothing - I mean, I didn't commit homicides or anything :P - it was with the choir. We always sang also for St Francis, on October 4th. He's Italy's patron saint, so every year they transmict the Mass on one of the national channels. One of the girls who came with me had taped it one year, and we saw it something like a year ago or so... OMG I wish I hadn't seen it. ^^; Embarrassing beyond words is probably the right expression. :P

It was Bobo Craxi, brother of Bettino Craxi - have you heard of him? I was in a restaurant with my parents&friends, he was a couple tables over.
