There is the lyrics meme, the movie meme, the ten lies&truths meme... and not a fanfiction quotes meme.

So, I'm giving it to you. :P

Behind the cut, you will find twenty quotes from different fanfictions. Er, what with me being me, a large part of them comes from Remus/Sirius (or Sirius/Remus, I don't really make a difference between the two) stories - but, surprise surprise, not all of them. Some of the quotes are, er, quite lenghty... I had set out to quote one phrase, two at the veeeeery very most (you'll probably be able to recognize the first ones I've chosen), but I was at the sixth/seventh when I realized I was quoting something like a third of the story. Some of them are going to be awfully easy to guess, in fact. Also, be thankful that this time I've listened to reason. If I hadn't you'd find something like 50 quotes behind that cut. Sometimes from the same story.

All right, last note before we go. I want to stress the fact that while this obviously qualifies also as a rec post, those are not my twenty most favorite stories. While, yes, I've enjoyed them, sometimes to truly fangirling degrees, these are just the first 20 quotes I thought of, or simply stumbled on.

And now... C'mon, girls, show me what you can do. :D (I'm warning you, I'll laugh if some of you won't recognize your own. ;P)

(Though that might be just envy, since I'm pants at this kind of games. :D)

I'm gong to follow Ni's example and make all comments screened, just for the moment. I'll post the results sometime tomorrow, or the day after.

Good luck!

    Guess The Quote Meme!

  1. Sirius barely suppressed the urge to growl. "This whole bloody routine of yours. Look, I don't mind Peter hexing all my robes pink. I don't mind James telling the house-elves to leave the laundry on the floor so I can lift the shirts. I can take a joke as well as the next bloke. And this thing you're doing -- it was funny the first day, all right? But not for a whole bloody week."

  2. Molly looked at him critically over her teacup.

"Remus, haven't you ever thought about settling down?"

"What interesting weather we're having lately," Remus said.

  3. Remus recognised that look as the one that Sirius had tended to use on teachers at school, right before he was thrown into detention.  Aaahh.  Well, this wasn't at all fair.  The twins were hopelessly outnumbered.

  4. “Good,” Sirius said and eyed him. He was almost hidden by bubbles but Sirius could see the lines of his ribs and the small bumps at the end of his collarbones. There was something about the curve of his neck that belonged right here, in Sirius’ bathroom where no one else would ever see it.

  5. A slippery hand seized his wrist and pulled him in before he even had a chance to finish berating his vocal cords. Sirius’s eyes were now open, dark pupils almost overpowering the thin ring of pale blue around them. Remus stared and tried to remember what regular breathing felt like.

“Remus, I am naked. In a tub. You are sitting next to me, giving off so many pheromones I can hardly breathe right. What do you think I want you to do?”

Remus blinked. He had to stop himself from sniffing the air around them for the pheromones that Sirius had mentioned. He knew that that wasn’t the important part of what Sirius had said, but his mind refused to focus on the other half. Because it hadn’t actually happened. And Sirius hadn’t made Remus’s desires known to both of them. And what did Sirius mean by not being able to breathe right? Focusing on the one coherent sentence his bleary mind was able to produce, he opened his mouth to speak it:

“Good God, Sirius, what the fuck took you so long?”

  6. However, Remus knows, he didn't have any more of a crush on Sirius than he did on anyone else. That was just one of dozens of desires he never expected to fulfill.

That was what made it all the more startling when, two years into Auror training, Sirius had come striding into one of Lily's parties with a boyfriend. His arm had been slung around the man's shoulder - Remus can no longer remember the name that was shouted over the gathering's din of laughter and music, but he remembers the man's broad smile and dark skin - and Sirius had expected them all to be happy about it.

And, of course, they had been. Remus, who had spent the last few years in the closet, had been stunned to see how easily everyone accepted the idea. Sirius was gay. Nobody cared, not then nor in the future, when other men passed through various pub-crawls and birthday bashes on Sirius' arm.

Even then, Remus kept his secret. He'd imagined all sorts of ways of coming out to his friends, but none were quite as humiliating as meekly raising his hand and saying, "Me, too." He kept trying to find another way, another solution, and then finally he stumbled into the worst of all.

He didn't come out until there was nobody left to come out to.

  7. Sirius turned to see Professor McGonagall standing in the classroom doorway, looking entirely too amused. He swallowed hard. "Permission to die now, Professor?"

"Permission denied." McGonagall swept past in a rustle of lavender-smelling plaid. "I wouldn't wish to deny Professor Flitwick the joy of your company on Thursday evening."

Remus threw Sirius a look. "Another detention?" he asked, voice low.

Sirius sighed. "I may have suggested just where he could put his flick-flick-swish," he confessed.

  8. Harry was looking in Cedric's face, as though he were trying to measure the words he'd said, see if he could believe them himself.

  9. “I climbed the Whomping Willow once.” It was Peter. He spoke almost shyly.

“Really?” Sirius inquired in an unconvinced tone. James was stretched out beside him, wiry hair on end, legs wrapped around the wide bough. James was studying the well-worn hearts that covered the trunk of the tree. It was a simple enough spell, done with one’s wand in a red curve of words that forever seared the bark. Wondering if perhaps it would be worth his trouble to cast his own wishful coupling upon the wood, James felt a kick on his boot toe. Sirius caught his eye and smirked.

Peter continued. “Yeah, but I did it as Wormtail. It’s a lot easier to do as a rodent.” He looked to the Willow across the grounds. Even in the frigid air it groaned and writhed about, sending heavy thumps down the hill.

“What was it like?” Remus asked, having caught the passing glance between Sirius and James.

  10. Remus stops tickling him immediately, but doesn’t let him up, and his face is pressed next to Sirius’s. They’re both sweaty and panting and laughing, and Sirius begins to get dizzy because they’re so close and he’s pinned down and if he wanted he could just turn his head- just the tiniest bit- and his lips would find Remus’s earlobe, he could thrust his hips just a tiny bit and they would rub against Remus’s, and suddenly Remus is saying in a low voice, “What do I win, Padfoot?” and he wants to tell him, “Me, you win me,” but Remus perks up his head and murmurs, “James is coming.”

  11. 10) Stun Remus with snogging prowess. Agree to be his boyfriend when he asks.

  12. "You know, if anything ever happened to you, I don't know if I could go on."

This was one of his few complaints about Sirius. The man never just rolled over and went to sleep after sex. Talk, talk, talk. "Mm." Perhaps that would satisfy him. Remus pulled the covers up.

    "No, I couldn't. Really."

"All right." Remus tried agreeing with him.

That turned out to be the wrong tactic. "All right? ALL RIGHT? Moony, you're supposed to tell me that I still have so much to give to the world, that my friends and loved ones need me, that it would upset you no end to think of me dying!" Sirius rolled away from him. "All right, he says."

Remus sighed. "Well, I'll be dead, Sirius. I won't care."

    "That's NOT THE POINT!"

  13. "They were making advances?" Sirius asked. "I call that thoughtless. Imagine if one of them had managed to distract me and ruin one of my pranks. The girls of Hogwarts need to learn to keep their distance, the filthy wenches."

"Well, they have learned, that's what I'm telling you. They're a little more mature now," Remus said patiently, "and they've seen past the, the cavalier attitude and the superficial good looks-"

Sirius looked greatly gratified. "Thank you, Moony!"

    "I don't think you're taking my point."

"He's trying to tell you they call you Sirus 'Crazy Eyes' Black in the common room," Fabian said casually.

  14. One of them is clearly nicer than the rest, a thick blue enameled metal pen with "DAD" engraved on it. Bill gave it to him once for his birthday, and when Molly fretted over the cost said he'd found it lying in the street, only needing a quick charm to clean it up. Arthur likes to imagine its owner had looked for it already, striding up and down the street, and never found it, rather than believing that Bill had snatched it up before its owner could return.

He must have gone back to look for it, Arthur thinks. Any father would.

  15. He never finds out what it is that Moony can't do. A moment later Remus is flopped across his chest, wide open, still panting as Sirius rumbles approval and paws down his spine from nape to tail. "Have I done you in? Excess exertion?"

Remus mumbles something about Madam Pomfrey and having kittens.

"Cats? No, no cats allowed. Damn things'd leave hair all over."

  16. Sirius crossed his arms over his chest and stared down at his feet. "It's our first year getting to ask someone to the ball, like you said. I want you to go with me. As my date. Because I like you." He looked back up, gaze slightly desperate. "D'you get it? Not as a pity date or anything like that, but you know...like a *date*."

Lupin stared at him with wide hazel eyes. Perfect silence reined for about three seconds.

    "You utter prick."

    Sirius's face fell.

  17. Sirius ignores him to turn his reproachful stare on James. “Your apples have worms, Potter.”

Peter snickers and they all stare at him.

“Oh, come on,” James says, incredulous. “Even you can’t get innuendo out of that.”

“Make it a bet,” Peter replies, eyes gleaming.

  18. Sirius nodded. “Can I ask one more question, though?”

    “Why not.”

“When'd you figure out that you were, you know...?”

“Well, when I was very young,” Remus started sarcastically, “I was bitten by a homosexual and every full moon I found myself redecorating my room and listening to Muggle torch songs.”

  19. “Fine. I will.” He blew out a puff air, and then tried to gather his thoughts a bit. “I’m here at three in the morning smelling like death warmed over because I wanted to talk with you about guilt.” Well, that hadn’t come out quite the way he’d wanted it to, but what the hell… “And feeling like what happened was all your fault and about thinking that everyone would be better off if you weren’t around, but knowing at the same time that even if you left it wouldn’t fix the hurt that they feel.”

  20. He collapsed against Remus' back, who flopped down on his stomach with Sirius still on top, in a tangle of torsos and limbs.

"Mate for life my arse," Sirius snorted softly. "That wasn't even fifteen minutes…"

    Bonus quote:

  • But since Potions isn’t my favorite class, I can’t bring myself to try too terribly hard to mend my Marauder-like ways and buckle down. An essay on colors. On colors.

As if I could see them.

...all right, a hint. This:

Of course, if Remus did move in, he would have a new problem. Stopping himself from touching Remus did colourful things to his sanity at the best of times. Now Remus was trying to provoke him, it was almost impossible. Remus was his and it was perfectly natural to want to touch him. Just because he wanted something, it didn’t mean it was right for him to have it. His family wanted to exterminate all Muggles from the face of the planet. Tough luck all round.

--comes from one of the stories quoted above.

...

Oh, all right, it's not really a hint, it's just that I couldn't choose which one to use and I love them both. :D

So? Anything you can recognize? :D

Phew, this is difficult!

Is no. 2 from one of [livejournal.com profile] minnow_53's stories that she posted in [livejournal.com profile] too_old_too_gay? Because this sounds so familiar.

No. 12 I've read, I know... But it's been too long... It's archived at Azkaban's Lair, right?

Same goes for no. 16.

Oh! The link to no. 18, please! That sounds hilarious!

No. 19 I know. Splendid story: "One Last Regret" by Kimagure, archived at Azkaban's Lair.

Nope! :D

Number 12... could be, I honestly don't remember. (checked - sorry, but it isn't archived there. :( Not that one, anyway. ;) )

Neither is 16, alas!

You'll have all the links tomorrow, not to worry. ;D

Oh yes oh yes! I adore that story!

7. and 11. are sheafrotherdon, but can't for the life of me remember the titles. 11. is the first one, "Great Gormless Flobberworm" or summat. 7. is the one where Sirius can't sleep.

Quite a few of these seem familiar, but can't pin them down exactly. :)

This is humiliating and painful. And so fucking difficult.

Well, let's see:

2-? this was by Penknife, right? Ephemeri?

6-Inhabited by Winter - Yahtzee?

8-Something Else. Something Better -woohooooo! I didn't have to think this one :) (the first one I got, I read it, I know it!)

11-The Great Golden Gormless... my first Cate-fic! (the second I just knew)

18-The Ambiguously Gay Werewolf - that quote is absolutely brilliant!

20- I don't remember the title but I know it was by Mousapelli, and very amusing. Yep.

And you know the funny thing? Number eight is the first one I've copied down, actually. :D

I didn't know you'd read IbW. :D Oh, isn't it beautiful? I loved it. Did you read Welcoming Padfoot (or something like that), too?

I forgot 12, which I'm pretty sure it's Minx's The Conversation.

and some of these quotes are about to make me cry in frustration! I KNOW THEM! I KNOW #1, I have no doubts about it, yet I can't remember... and it's not the only one

I'll go make tea to ease the pain.

Mmm, I honestly don't remember, I think I remember Welcoming Padfoot, but like you've seen I really have trouble remembering things I should remember. And yes, IbW is really good.

AH YES.

alright. here goes.
for "eyes wide open", the written story is in 2 parts: part 1 (http://aillil.livejournal.com/2306.html) and part 2 (http://aillil.livejournal.com/2694.html).

also there's a web comic (http://studiosilence.free.fr/with-eyes-cs.htm) for it by [livejournal.com profile] remeciel if you're interested (she makes wonderful r/s comics/art). even though the text is hard to read, the pictures illustrate the story perfectly.
