First thing first:

Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] mrsronweasley and [livejournal.com profile] the_gwyllion! Lovely ladies and lovely artists who both deserve a MORE THAN LOVELY birthday! ♥ ♥ ♥

So, on other accounts, last Thursday I finally went to see Indiana Jones and the aliens.

And it was SO MUCH FUN. A lot more fun than I'd expected it to be, actually. :P

It was an afternoon showing, and it had been in the theatre for almost a fortnight, so I didn't really expect it to be who knows how many people - but it's still true that at five minutes to the beginning there were five people in the room. Me included.

HA HA HA.

We were ten by the time the movie begun. (It still doesn't beat the one time I went with a friend to see Be Cool - NOT MY IDEA - and no one else showed up. The guys at the theatre decided to project the movie anyway... and oh, how awesome would it have been, if only the movie hadn't been so boring it was almost painful?) Not that it mattered, not really. I actually liked that we were few - coupled with the fact that the room was fairly small, it gave the projection a fairly cosy feel. :D

That said, I was almost surprised to find myself giggle at the opening scenes already - and for no other reason than the giddiness I was feeling. (I mean. Alright, I guess I am kind of easy when it comes to laughter, but it takes more than a jeep running on a desert? I... hope?) Oh boy, it was so good to see Indy again. It was almost strange to realize how much I'd missed the Indiana Jones movies - not so much considering how much I used to like them (and how many times I used to watch them, too), back in elementary school, I guess.

Let's be clear, if seen next to the real, first movies, it wouldn't stand the comparison even for five minutes. More than a movie in itself, it was a nostalgia moment a couple hours long. Still, it didn't keep me from enjoying it for what it was, and I'm glad of that.

...I am still glad there won't be a 5th, though. And they'd better not be thinking of having Shia become the next Indiana Jones! I admit I was a little wide eyed and going nonononopleaseNO, when he was about to try his father's hat. ;D Then Indy came in and saved the day again. :P

I wasn't sure how I would have liked Marion coming back - as a true elementary schooler with her first (tv) crush, I had an instinctive dislike for any woman who came near to Indy. ;) It didn't bother me much, of course - more than, I liked their dynamics, bickering more than included. I'll admit it's the kind of love I like best. ;) Still, I'm not sure how much I liked the wedding. I had to venture a guess, I would say "not much at all". With a "ew" on top. But it kind of sealed the lead on the Indy sequels (not-bachelor Indy is not Indy anymore ;) ), which I admit I liked. :P

It was just so Indiana Jones, up and starting with the magnetic coffin, you know? And even the wtf bits - hello, nuked fridge! - weren't the bad kind of fun. :D I only winced a couple times - at the Sacred Family scene, at the top of the temple, and when Marion gets that moonstruck look in her eyes. And also at the "They weren't you, honey" line - which is the kind of thing he'd say, but which I thought should have got a sarcastic response. ;) I mean, the woman has only been abandoned pregnant and on her way to the church.

Oh and! I'm inclined to think it was intentional, but I'm not 100% sure - at any rate, I loved seeing the, er, black spot on the right upper corner of the screen. (I clearly can't remember the technical term.) I remembered noticing it first in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - how many times I winded up the tape and pressed "pause", trying to understand what it was that I was seeing! - and only learned what it actually was with Fight Club. ;P And there was a slight problem with the projection just before, but I'm afraid that was not really on purpose. Sadface.

Now, fess up. HOW MANY OF YOU ACTUALLY EXPECTED THE ALIEN TO GET UP, GO "PHONE HOME" AND THEN GO BACK TO SLEEP? It would have been brilliant so. I would have probably laughed myself to tears.

Oh, my... I've been checking around the Fandom Superlative Awards, and I have this urge to nominate The Dark Tower for something somewhere. I mean, wouldn't Jake deserve the Best Kid award? Aw, you know he would. I'm tempted to put Roland in for Most Likely To Survive (I mean, LOOK at his history), but I guess it would be prudent to reach the end of the last book first. :P (Another possibility for him might be Most Likely To Succeed in World Domination. I mean. No, really.) I would propose almost ALL THE BOYS for Most Obviously In The Closet, too. Though Roland would still take the cake.

THE DARK TOWER, IT STEALS OVER YOUR LIFE.

And just to reiterate the fact:

You are in a mall when the zombies attack. You have:

1. one weapon.

...do I have to answer this? Even though, some Orizas...

2. one song blasting on the speakers.
Somebody Saved My Life Tonight. It probably would put me in a mod fit to kill someone. (Though it might work best on vampires. HA HA.)

3. one famous person to fight alongside you.
Roland Deschain. Or maybe NOT, considering how many of those who fought alongside him kind of DIED.

Oh oh oh! I've always forgot up to now - I also have a journalfen account. Though I should warn you that I doubt I'm going to do anything with it, not yet at any rate :P I've had it for a while, and haven't even gone even searching for people I know. Just in case, I guess?

HAHAHAHA! I finally checked out the joke ;D AND HAHA, THE SAD THING IS? The image of Roland clinging for dear life to the back of the driver is way, way too cute. ♥

Hehehehe! except that I'm much more surprised when people actually DIE in those movies than when they don't ;D Waterfalls included. OMG. They just - brushed themselves off and went on! oh come ooon. ;D

EVEN SO. I sort of found the movie charming, and I had a lot of fun!! And when the Aliens went to another dimension in the end, I turned to [info]feels_like_fire and said, "See? Even Indiana Jones knows that THERE ARE OTHER WORLDS THAN THESE."
HAHAHAHAHAHA OMG YOU TWO.

(Deeaaath!! ... But not for you, gunslinger.)
...why does that make me think of "sorry, you'll be more lucky next time"?
