Being with him requires far more guts than she thinks. Because when he says mean things, heartless things, he's not merely protecting himself. It's not as if, once you'd showed him your love, he'll automatically turn into Prince Charming.
It's the only way he has, the only one he knows to relate to anyone. But it's hard to keep reminding that, when the only thing you want is to be reassured.. And one can really grow tired of having to find hidden meanings behind every damned word he says.

Ooh, very nice. Yes, Severus Snape is definitely *not* Prince Charming. Most fics just have Snape acting grumpy and Harry accepting it because he loves him, but living with someone who is always angry/annoyed/a general bastard is really tiring and frustrating. I liked your take on the relationship, you did very good job.
