Wonder of wonders, I might have finally seen Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
The first vision took me about... oh, about an hour and a quarter, I think. And oh come on, it was NOT MY FAULT AT ALL if there were bits that had me hitting the rewind button. Like - oh, say, the bit where Jack says "I came back for you"? Looking at Ianto? Why yes, that might be one of those...
So, my reaction to this ep in a nutshell is: OMG WHY isn't Ianto The Right Honorable Ianto Jones, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom?
The first vision took me about... oh, about an hour and a quarter, I think. And oh come on, it was NOT MY FAULT AT ALL if there were bits that had me hitting the rewind button. Like - oh, say, the bit where Jack says "I came back for you"? Looking at Ianto? Why yes, that might be one of those...
- So, going in chronological order -
- you know what? I really, really liked seeing how the Jack-less team worked together - and I mean "worked" in the most loose of senses - pretty much in all situations, except the first scene in the hub when Jack comes back. I got the feeling it was a little too forced, like having a flashing sign "Gwen is the leader" going off and on. (I was a bit nonplussed at the shove-scene, too. That one didn't quite work for me.) But I loved the bit with them in the SUV, how they all talked I could feel that they were a team, as well as knowing it.
And yeah, YEAH, the bit with Owen pausing a second and then blowing the gun did make me giggle and love him that bit more. I am also ENTIRELY UNASHAMED by the fact. *g*
(Tosh... I don't know. At the end of the ep I still consider her kind of a wet fish. Sorry, had to say it. And of course that's just my opinion. ;) ) - Ianto. Oh, Ianto is so going to get a thousand of dotted points. Oh, oh I fancy him so bad. The bit I mentioned above - oh, it did my little heart so, SO much good! I loved it so much I didn't even squeal - except maybe on ultrasound frequency - I just played it again, and again, and again, and again... it wasn't the line itself, which really was kind of corny if you think about it, but the delivery that did it. The way Jack said it. OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG.
- I know pretty much nothing of James Masters and I have never seen him anywhere, but Capt. John did one good first impression (which he kind of ruined later on, though): a complete asshole, but with style. Always bound to score points with me. I totally loved his acting.
- PC Andy. PC ANDY. That's exactly the kind of guy I'd like to date - or maybe have as a lifetime friend? I'm not sure which one. BUT.
- The rest of the world moans and bitches, and Ianto goes instantly to hail a cab. LOVE that guy. (And he hails cabs like no one else. I bet a whole line of them stopped in front of him.)
- The fight! Oh, I loved it so much! Both that and the conversation after it. While the kiss before didn't bother me in the slightest, which surprised me a little. And I'd got completely the wrong idea of what a Time Agent might be, I thought Capt. John might be like a second Jack, complete with the "impossible to kill" aspect. Halfway through it became more than evident that that was not the case. ;P
- After that nice Jack/Ianto subtext, I was totally blindsided by the Gwen/Jack part. Oh, that bothered considerably more than the Jack/John.
- (The Ianto eyeroll at the Vera line! OMGLOVE.)
- Cpt. John started losing loads of point with the "omg I want Jack to be MINE ALL MINE" plot, though, up until the conversation with Jack up the roof. Seen that one too many times, John was less cool after :(
- That was a prelude to a possible Owen/Tosh, wasn't it. Mh, I doubt I'd like that pairing :/
- The office scene. That kicked some ass. I still held a bit of a grudge against Jack for the other scene, but Ianto. Oh, Ianto. I think that is where he made abundantly clear that he's not a puppy nor a toy. He's so going to make Jack work for it. ♥ (And eeeee! The remark about the rooftops!)
- Meeh, meeh, meeh. Lots of points lost, on the rooftop, Capt. John. Lots. (Besides, being sure as I was of that Time Agency thing, I wasn't much surprised to see Jack pushed off it. As I was sure John knew he was immortal, I figured it was the equivalent of a punch to the jaw.)
(I did go ewwwww at the bench scene, though.) - Ianto and the stopwatch! Ianto and the stopwatch! Ianto and the stopwatch! The glee on his face! (And on mine!)
- And honestly. If Gwen was so hot on the self-sacrifice thing, why this compelling need to stop her?
