Wonder of wonders, I might have finally seen Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
The first vision took me about... oh, about an hour and a quarter, I think. And oh come on, it was NOT MY FAULT AT ALL if there were bits that had me hitting the rewind button. Like - oh, say, the bit where Jack says "I came back for you"? Looking at Ianto? Why yes, that might be one of those...
So, my reaction to this ep in a nutshell is: OMG WHY isn't Ianto The Right Honorable Ianto Jones, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom?
The first vision took me about... oh, about an hour and a quarter, I think. And oh come on, it was NOT MY FAULT AT ALL if there were bits that had me hitting the rewind button. Like - oh, say, the bit where Jack says "I came back for you"? Looking at Ianto? Why yes, that might be one of those...
- So, going in chronological order -
- you know what? I really, really liked seeing how the Jack-less team worked together - and I mean "worked" in the most loose of senses - pretty much in all situations, except the first scene in the hub when Jack comes back. I got the feeling it was a little too forced, like having a flashing sign "Gwen is the leader" going off and on. (I was a bit nonplussed at the shove-scene, too. That one didn't quite work for me.) But I loved the bit with them in the SUV, how they all talked I could feel that they were a team, as well as knowing it.
And yeah, YEAH, the bit with Owen pausing a second and then blowing the gun did make me giggle and love him that bit more. I am also ENTIRELY UNASHAMED by the fact. *g*
(Tosh... I don't know. At the end of the ep I still consider her kind of a wet fish. Sorry, had to say it. And of course that's just my opinion. ;) ) - Ianto. Oh, Ianto is so going to get a thousand of dotted points. Oh, oh I fancy him so bad. The bit I mentioned above - oh, it did my little heart so, SO much good! I loved it so much I didn't even squeal - except maybe on ultrasound frequency - I just played it again, and again, and again, and again... it wasn't the line itself, which really was kind of corny if you think about it, but the delivery that did it. The way Jack said it. OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG.
- I know pretty much nothing of James Masters and I have never seen him anywhere, but Capt. John did one good first impression (which he kind of ruined later on, though): a complete asshole, but with style. Always bound to score points with me. I totally loved his acting.
- PC Andy. PC ANDY. That's exactly the kind of guy I'd like to date - or maybe have as a lifetime friend? I'm not sure which one. BUT.
- The rest of the world moans and bitches, and Ianto goes instantly to hail a cab. LOVE that guy. (And he hails cabs like no one else. I bet a whole line of them stopped in front of him.)
- The fight! Oh, I loved it so much! Both that and the conversation after it. While the kiss before didn't bother me in the slightest, which surprised me a little. And I'd got completely the wrong idea of what a Time Agent might be, I thought Capt. John might be like a second Jack, complete with the "impossible to kill" aspect. Halfway through it became more than evident that that was not the case. ;P
- After that nice Jack/Ianto subtext, I was totally blindsided by the Gwen/Jack part. Oh, that bothered considerably more than the Jack/John.
- (The Ianto eyeroll at the Vera line! OMGLOVE.)
- Cpt. John started losing loads of point with the "omg I want Jack to be MINE ALL MINE" plot, though, up until the conversation with Jack up the roof. Seen that one too many times, John was less cool after :(
- That was a prelude to a possible Owen/Tosh, wasn't it. Mh, I doubt I'd like that pairing :/
- The office scene. That kicked some ass. I still held a bit of a grudge against Jack for the other scene, but Ianto. Oh, Ianto. I think that is where he made abundantly clear that he's not a puppy nor a toy. He's so going to make Jack work for it. ♥ (And eeeee! The remark about the rooftops!)
- Meeh, meeh, meeh. Lots of points lost, on the rooftop, Capt. John. Lots. (Besides, being sure as I was of that Time Agency thing, I wasn't much surprised to see Jack pushed off it. As I was sure John knew he was immortal, I figured it was the equivalent of a punch to the jaw.)
(I did go ewwwww at the bench scene, though.) - Ianto and the stopwatch! Ianto and the stopwatch! Ianto and the stopwatch! The glee on his face! (And on mine!)
- And honestly. If Gwen was so hot on the self-sacrifice thing, why this compelling need to stop her?
So, my reaction to this ep in a nutshell is: OMG WHY isn't Ianto The Right Honorable Ianto Jones, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom?

on 2008-03-01 07:51 pm (UTC)Tell you the truth, KKBB was my first ep (like a test) and I laugh so hard that afterward I had to watch the complete serie. In the end, it turn out to be darker than the appetizer (without mentioning the frequent plot holes) but who I am for reject a sci-fi show where the slash becomes canon?
Exactly =p

on 2008-03-01 10:38 pm (UTC)Oh! Oh! Oh! I'd seen s1 already, but I can see SO easily how you can have been sucked in by KKBB.

on 2008-03-01 07:56 pm (UTC)I agree with you on a lot of this, too! Except I could never not love Captain John, because I have loved James Marsters since I was a wee lass of 13!
(Oh shit is that already 10 years ago? TEN YEARS OF JAMES MARSTERS LOVE!)
(BOO ON THE HORRIBLE JACK/GWEN PART! It was overdone. But Gwen gets better as the series goes on! Though I do worry about my dear Toshiko, because I do love her.. But I don't really like Tosh/Owen. THEY ARE SO CUTE AS FRIENDS. OWEN IS SO CUTE/WONDERFUL/OWEN *LOVE*)
(God can you tell how bored I am? Fucking midterm exams and their need to be made so my students can fail them.)

on 2008-03-01 10:34 pm (UTC)I'm choosing to trust you on the "Gwen gets better" part - I mostly ignored her for all of s1, and I'd prefer to keep on doing that. I don't want reasons to loath her. ;P
Aw, I just can't see Owen and Tosh, they just don't work well together for me :(
But you don't have to fail them! Mark with happy faces! ;D
LOVE LOVE LOVE YOU. DUDE. LOVE YOU.

on 2008-03-01 11:25 pm (UTC)She does get better! At times! Really, it's all about Rhys being PURE AWESOME. *also loves Rhys*
I think they work wonderfully as friends! Like the scene back in Ghost Machine when they go drinking. As friends! <3 But I think if they ever hooked up it would ruin that dynamic. :(
But some of them sadly failed! It makes me sad to fail them, but fail them I must! They never ask me for help, that lot.
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE YOU! DUDE!

Oh, HOW MUCH I'm loving Torchwood! I don't even know where to start gushing about it!

on 2008-03-05 03:51 pm (UTC)(JAMES MARSTERS! God, I hope he comes back. As it is, I've started rewatching Buffy..)
And I just need to reiterate that I AM SO GLAD YOU ARE GOING MAD WITH THE REST OF US! :D

on 2008-03-05 04:08 pm (UTC)He does, doesn't he? James Marsters, I mean. I'm sure I saw him - whether on the preview of the next episode, or on the "presentation" of the series at the end of KKBB I'm not sure. But he should be with us again! <3333
I'm only sorry I don't find him too awfully hot, though. If I did, he could be competition with
IantoOwen for the second position. ;PI AM ALWAYS GOING MAD! BUT NOW I'M GOING MAD WITH PRECISION! And lj isn't emailing me the comments!

on 2008-03-05 04:20 pm (UTC)I'm pretty sure he will! James Marsters has never let me down!
Though he's not as hot as he used to be. Exhibit A. And although I love Owen and I love Ianto, I've loved Spike since I was 13! TEN YEARS NOW! :O
GODDAMN LJ! I'm going to bust some kneecaps! >:0
(I am also going mad.. WITH LOVE FOR YOU!!!)

on 2008-03-01 08:01 pm (UTC)The Office Scene is the most beautiful thing in the story of the Universe ♥
Now you can check my KKBB picspam :D
Isn't Ianto the most adorable thing ever? OMG! I LOVE HIM MADLY!
OMG WHY isn't Ianto The Right Honorable Ianto Jones, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom?
He should! He should! Our Dear Penguin got it right. Pity none of us is from UK, we could have started a campaign for him :)

on 2008-03-01 09:18 pm (UTC)AWWW THE PICSPAM! And seriously, with the next episode I'll have to keep a bloc notes page open for my thoughts about it. Writing the entry took me about as long as the episode itself :o ...in fact, I had the ep running in the background as I wrote it, to make sure I wouldn't miss anything ;P (But the sounds still aren't playing on my computer, which made it possible for me to post the entry TODAY.)
Ianto. Ianto OWNS the whole thing. There wasn't a single sequence with him in it that I didn't love. And oh! oh! oh! the office scene! Oh, that one couldn't have been done better!
Oh, but I have a better idea - we could start a campaign for him as the ruler of the WORLD. Jack or John as emperors? BAH. Ianto, I say! :o

on 2008-03-01 09:55 pm (UTC)NO! You have to watch the episode and enjoy it, after that, you can make your entry while re-watching some of the scenes.
Awesomesauce scene with Jack and Ianto in ep2, not sweet but lots of fun and Jack is so whipped! :)
Like I said many times already: Ianto owned Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. In fact Ianto owns everything.
John? Why? He's an asshole! He was funny and all, but he's a cheap villain. Ianto should rule the Universe and Jack can be his queen :D

on 2008-03-05 12:06 pm (UTC)Didn't mention him because he should be, just because he came up with the idea! ;D
Ianto OWNS IT ALL. Oh. Oh my god. Oh how I love him.

on 2008-03-01 08:25 pm (UTC)The office scene is one of the BEST.THING.EVER. I must have watched it hundreds of times... And the 'I came back for you'! Awwww! :D
About the inmortality, if you watched Doctor Who, you'd know that's only Jack ;)
And OMGYES to the PM thing! :D
*MWAH!*

on 2008-03-02 04:55 pm (UTC)That said - omg, the LOVE I have for that scene. Same goes for "I came back for you". I think I could have squealed more ONLY if I'd watched it with you and Ni. ;D
(Prime Minister of the World, though. England isn't nearly enough! ;D)
*GLOMPS!*

on 2008-03-02 04:42 am (UTC)Btw, the immortality thing is completely unique to Jack, and Jack alone. It's the result of an event that happened at the end of the first season of Doctor Who. ;)

on 2008-03-02 05:02 pm (UTC)I really will have to get around to watch DW too, sonner or later ;D Aww. I'm almost sad, though, you know? I felt it gave the Jack/John friendship some more depth. This way I just can't think John is any real competition, for Ianto ;D

I'm just letting you know that I'll be friending you. :) I have been a humongous fan of your work for quite some time, and, being an artist myself (more of a writer, though), I am always intrigued to get to know the person behind the art that I admire.
Your last work that you posted
Anyway, so I'm friending you. If you are ever interested in who I am (and that I'm not a creepy stalker or something), HERE (http://midnight-birth.livejournal.com/4566.html) is a little about me. :)
