It went approximately as follows.

Me: "Hello?"
Unidentified Woman: "Hello, Madam--"
Me: *raises eyebrows* No, not another survey.
UW: "--I'm calling to remind you that on the 3rd and 4th of April the local elections will take place--"
Me: "Yeah. Yeah, I know." 1
UW: "--and, regardless of your political color2, I'd like to suggest you to give your vote to a woman. To [name I don't remember], from Forza Italia."
Me: *jaw hanging*
UW: "So, remember to place a cross over Forza Italia's logo, and write [the name, again] beside--"
Me: "No, thanks."

And I hang the receiver. Now, point one: who the hell gave them my number. Why all the privacy talks we've heard about over and over again don't come into this? Point two: 'regardless of your political color' my arse. Point three: asking me to vote for a woman. Why should I vote for a woman just because she's a woman? I'm going to vote for the person I think is the best. If it's a woman, so much the better, but it doesn't come first. Point four: why do you think you have the liberty to phone me to tell me who to vote?

/end rant.

1: At this point in time, I started to wonder whether it wasn't just a recorded message. (It wasn't, by the by.)

2: i.e., black or red. Idiomatic expression.

God. There was this girl in my class at primary school who thought Margaret Thatcher [insert hawking noises here, spitting bile, very rude words] was the bees knees, because she was A Woman. Whatthefuckever.

Hm. Primary school? So she was, like, 7/8 y. o.? Then, that was what her parents thought?

Good.

Eaxctly. She had a 'progressive' 'feminist' mother.

Oh, God - the people who thinks they're 'progressive' and that are as bad as the 'others' just piss me off. So much.

Eeep! Il Grande Fratello esiste davvero! O_O

A me era successa una cosa simile alle scorse elezioni (per le provinciali mi sembra), solo che il messaggio era registrato. Sempre Forza Italia però.

Ma perchè la gente lo vota, perchè? T___T

Ma che ne so? Masochismo? Deficienza? Rassegnazione? Ti giuro che non lo so.

(Anche se era bellissimo come, dopo le scorse elezioni, a chiunque chiedessi, nessuno lo aveva votato. Evidentemente era andato su da solo. Tsk.)

Come on, Bruni, she's a fascist motherfucker, an ultra conservative asshole, but she is a woman!
Idiots.

Privacy? If you think there's any left in the world you're soooo wrong, baby!

So, are you voting for Female Candidate for Forza Italia, right? :)

I missed you! I love you ::hugs::

I think if I ever voted for Forza Italia my parent would disown me. XD

Er... I mean parents, plural. They both would do it. And then send me to a psychiatric hospital for life. ^_^'

Sorry for spamming you, Bru!

I didn't even notice the plural. ;)

Huhuhu! I can only imagine the shouting match between me and mum, was that the case. I have to say I'm glad we agree at least on this. :P

That's a very respectable reason to disown a child. If I were your mother and you voted Forza Italia, I'd disown you :)

Of course I'm voting for her, do you need to ask? :P

I asked two-three friends yesterday, but they didn't receive the call. Guess who the lucky one could be? Bah.

Oh, no. I have to draw the line somewhere. :D

(Never mind that I would draw said line much before that. And while I'm there, I'd sketch the puppies at the end, just because.)

Now, point one: who the hell gave them my number. Why all the privacy talks we've heard about over and over again don't come into this?

Pagine Bianche XD
Indovina come lo so **
Purtroppo avere il tuo numero sulla guida telefonica significa che terzi sono liberi di usarlo per questo scopo, e non possono essere perseguibili.
Ci sono due soluzioni:
1) chiedi alla Telecom il servizio che ti blocca le chiamate di questo genere sul telefono (che di solito provengono da centralini e quindi possono essere bloccate), però mi sa che costa un bel pò;

Point four: why do you think you have the liberty to phone me to tell me who to vote?

I pity the women that have to do this job.
And I thought that Tele2 was bad....
Seriously, this thing shocked me a bit.
Are ALL our politicians THAT stupid?!?!??!
They're using OUR money from the taxes WE pay to call us and ask for a vote?
And they actually think we would be pleased by this and say yes?
Wasn't the SMS that we received for the past elections enough?
The worst thing is that this method, that could look stupid to most, works on a good number of people. The SMS, you read it, laugh about it and delete it. A phone call is another matter entirely.
If you hadn't hang up in that moment, she would probably have started to try and convince you of the good of her intentions. You're lucky that you already have strong convinctions about political matters, but many people haven't, and it isn't very hard to convince indecisive people.
Believe me, every objection can be pulled apart and rebuilt in favour of the one who calls, and it's not very difficult to do this.
So, if 50% of the people called don't know who to vote for, probably the 30% of them will vote for the politician in question.
And just because of a little brainwashing by competent phone operators that made some interesting points.
Maybe THIS is how they won the past elections.
Never understimate the power of anti-par condicio advertisements **/
I just hope the other political 'colors' won't do the same... With all the politicians we have in Italy we would scarcely have the time to hang the phone between a call and the other u.u;
Now I have to go to work **
Oh, by the way, do you know that some people won't activate Tele2 because they say it's Berlusconi's? XD

Oh, good! Thank you so much for replying! I had forgot you're working as an operator.

But... is it really that easy to persuade people? I mean... oh, I don't know, I guess I just don't see how people can trust anyone's judgment as easily as that. But probably (sadly) you're right.

And I'm not even going into the sms thing.

Oh, by the way, do you know that some people won't activate Tele2 because they say it's Berlusconi's? XD
(Is it? I didn't know that. :D ) This is going to sound childish, I know, but - even if I'm never been interested in soccer - I'm never too happy when Milan wins a match for pretty much the same reason. ^^;

Easy? With some individuals, it's more than easy XD
It just takes two or three examples, usually, and people are already reconsidering their opinion XD
Obviously politic is a lot different from a phone marketing that allows you to save your money, and you'll find that it's a lot more simple to convince people to vote for candidates they don't care about than have them agree on something that could influence their monthly budget XD

Ehr... Tele2 ISN'T Berlusconi's XD It isn't even an Italian company XD The people I call are out of their mind XD
I should keep track on my LJ of the stupid things they say...
A man asked me yesterday if Tele2 it's part of Enel, another one told me 'No thanx we already have Sky for our TV', and the remaining 98% told me to piss off in not very gentle ways...
Oh, I love this job **
It reminds me that I'm not the stupides creature in this world **

Oh god, I think you're so absolutely right. One thing I'd never even think to try of argue is that Italians, for a large part, have a very provincial mentality more often than not.

It isn't even an Italian company XD
I didn't know that either. :D Where does it come from?

Hm... I guess Umbria is a bit out of your target, isn't it? Otherwise, you could try to convince me of reading slash. I guess it would make a nice change. :D

Swiss. Or so I'm told XD

Hm... I guess Umbria is a bit out of your target, isn't it?

NOTHING is out of our target ** We call everywhere, sadly Y_Y You should listen to some of the dialects we hear every day... half of the time I nod smiling stupidly at the phone, thank politely and hung up without having understood a single word Y_Y

Otherwise, you could try to convince me of reading slash. I guess it would make a nice change. :D

Oooh, I think it's a task too difficult even for me. You reading slash? Can't even fathom the notion u.u

That happens all the time here. It's really annoying sometimes, but fun at others. I tell the Liberals that I'm voting Conservative (that pisses them off), I tell the NDP that I'm voting Liberal (and they don't seem to care too much), and I tell the Conservatives that I'm voting NDP (that REALLY pisses them off). I figure that if they're goign to be so rude as to ask me who I plan on voting for, it's my right to jerk them around a bit. But, kudos to you for hanging up - she sounded more insistant than the folks who call over here.
