Title: Mrs. Black
Fandom: ...guess.
Rating: Hey, I seem to be doing only G-rated pics lately.
Notes: I first thought of this roughly eight-nine months ago, after I read A Black in Wolf's Clothing, by Minx. While it's not directly related to the story, the inspiration surely came from there.
So, this is why we have a young and (hopefully) fine-looking Mrs. Black.

Mrs Black

Er. In order to look like a proper painting, it would have needed a frame. And a sort-of-background. Of course, I thought of this only now.

Anyway: some of you may remember the very, very first sketch. There, the reference I used for the dress is way more clear than it's here. In any case, it's Cristofano Allori's "Judith with the Head of Holofernes", although this time around I changed things quite a bit - but who knows, maybe someone who studied Art History, and remembers it, has got that. :)

Me and proportions are still on no-speaking terms, so nothing to be gained there. Mrs Black does have an ego the size of a Quidditch field, though, so maybe I could make her head's dimension pass as "symbolic". :P

So. How is it? Honestly?

She's beautiful! And cold, nothing like your Lily's beauty.
Her face and her hair are specially fabulous.

Thank you! :D

Really..? I don't know, the face seems too plain. Meh. I wanted to make her more haughty.

Some people have "plain" faces :) I do think she looks fabulous and I love the shading, it makes the pic looks more... I don't know... detailed or more alive or something.

Hehehe! I guess I wanted to draw a face that said "I'd spit at you if I wasn't so well-mannered". :D

For the rest- eeeee. So glad.

She seems fairly haughty to me, something about her lips. Not to mention the eyebrows. And yes, fine-looking is right. I loooooooove her sleeves also.

I really love how distant she seems. Not just disinterested or unengaged, but the old style clothes and the cold expression.. Yeah, it really works for her.

The fabric is GORGEOUS. Really amazingly textured and so soft compared to her.

I don't think her head is too big. Honestly, the only bit that's a little wonky is her ear. I think that was much more successful in the earlier sketch.

But she is lovely. <3

You like it? You really do? Thank you so much, I'm glad to hear that. :D

Nothing to say. When I draw, apart from the "eventual" consignee, there's always, always a little group of people I always have in mind.

Small bit of trivia: did you know that this was the first idea I had for your bday gift? Then, I opted for something that seemed more... appropriate, shall we say. ;)

Love you.

It's quite lovely, honestly :D Your lines are confident and they flow nicely like marble drapery! I do agree that a slight background would have helped to situate such an obviously aristocratic woman in space (just a few lines here and there to reinforce the strong, pyramid composition--a staple of any rich portrait ;D), but a few steps at a time, it's much improved from your earlier version I think :)

Concrit? Because you've outlined everything like a contour drawing, the nose is a bit unsettling, in that it's not consistent with the rest of the drawing. I can understand why you placed a line where the "shadow" of her nose would be in order to indicate depth, but since there's no light direction in this image and because you've outlined everything else, it would have worked better if you'd used some very gentle shading for the right of her nose (our left) and then drawn a thin line for the left (the direction she's turned towards).

Keep drawing! (and yayy for natural media!) ♥

Hehehe, thank you! :D Probably I should pick it up again in a while, when I'll have more time, and actually add some sort of background. After I've done some research, first, though. :D

Aaah the nose! I'm so stupid. At first I'd thought of trying to play with lights and shadows, and then promptly forgot as soon as I got far from the face. *sigh* Yes, you're right.

Hehehe! It's not like a have a choice, though. :D I'm still hopeless at anything else. And, well, even the idea of charcoal frightens me a bit, seeing how I'm the eraser's best friend - or its worst enemy, depending on how you look at it. :P

Thank you so much for your comment! I appreciated it a real lot, especially suggestions and concrits. :D

*hugs*

I love her hair! And the dress looks amazing. And I can't believe I'm saying that about Mrs Black.

Really this is great.

kisses :-)

I know, this is old, but I've only just seen it. She definitely looks like old-money aristo. I could see this person pulling off a name like "Walburga" with cold grace and perfect comportment. Se could probably hex the ears off a scullery maid and then return to her cocktail party with a perfect hostess' smile.

Walburga! I still can't get over the name. Man. Man! It still makes me laugh. I can't help it. :D

Oh, I hadn't seen this in so long! It does look quite the incomplete piece, doesn't it? ^^; But thank you! :D :D :D

Yeah, I'm slowly but surely making it through all your fan art. Through it, you put me on to Minx's Lost Feeling Stories, which I'm enjoying reading. You've great art. I love it when a piece of it pops up in someone's avatar. Now if I could just find an archive of the shoebox art.

Oh, really? :D I'm so glad to hear that. Minx's production is great, isn't it? :)

Shoebox art?

Shoebox Project. Apparently it's a HP fanfic-realm that was popular but is no more, from what I've been able to gather. I see a lot of avatars that claim to be art from the Shoebox Project. I like looking at fan art even more than I like reading fanfic, so I went hunting, but I haven't found much in the way of art.
