So, yesterday I've received my pretty copy of HBP, and now I can go on a little more quickly.
This book is making me excited. When I'm excited, incidentally, I can't shut the hell up - and thankfully for the world, I'm reading the book alone, so the occasional squeal or comment aloud during the reading goes unnoticed - but well, I reckoned that instead of annoying one poor person alone, I could annoy all of you, so here are some thoughts about the book (until chapter 16 included, since that's as far as I've gone).
And to think that I grimace every time I see a four-lines phrase. Talk about incoherency a lot.
Anyway, these are the thoughts I've had, presented in the kind of list I seem to like so much:
I think that's all, I can't remember anything else right now. Hm. I do like speculation for speculation's sake, don't I. That's part of why I tried to avoid spoiler as hard as I could... where would the fun be, then? :P
I hope I haven't left phrases hanging. It wouldn't be the first time. (Neither the last.)
(Duh? Why my mindmap is colored now? Don't you need to make a donation for that? And I'm pretty sure I haven't.)

Anyway, these are the thoughts I've had, presented in the kind of list I seem to like so much:
- Sirius' will. I can understand why he left everything to Harry. I can. But the fact the he left Remus completely out nags at me a bit.
(Oh, all right, not just a bit.)
(I believe the first words that crossed my mind - and came out of my mouth too, I'm afraid - were "che stronzo!" Or "che bastardo", I'm not sure which. Come to think of it, probably both.) - Snape in Chapter Two. That part sent me squealing. I still think he is a bit of a asshole, but he can do his job real well. (And I still don't think he's crossed sides.)
- I am determined to chalk up any contact between Remus and Tonks to pure friendship until I actually read about them kissing. And even then I'd find a way to justify it. After all, last I checked me and a few other friends were ready to form a Denial Club, and I have reasons to doubt we would be the only ones there. :D
(No, I probably wouldn't be above saying that they're so close because Remus has told Tonks about himself and Sirius. :P AND HERE COMES IN LIZ'S FIC! BWAHAHAHAHA! Yes, I only just thought about this. I confess I was just joking until two phrases ago.) - As for the Half Blood Prince, the first one I thought about was, admittedly, Slughorn, but it doesn't seem likely. Slughorn would have no interest in helping someone looking great. He'd have nothing to gain that way.
As a wild guess, as I've never given the matter much thought, I'd say it's Tom. Before he found that his father was not the magical one of his parents, I doubt his hatred towards Muggles was quite so pronunciated, maybe he wouldn't have minded calling himself that. We can also add that the "pureblood prejudice" was probably already rather strong then: being a half-blood AND the best of his year, as he probably was, could be a point of pride to him. Another way to make himself different. (I'm not too sure about this, though.) And I don't know yet if I like the fact that, by all means, it looks like Tom's going to have a big disappointment about his father, and that this could be the last push to his downfall. I guess it depends on how it will be written. - Am I the only one to think that JKR just had to switch job positions between Snape and Slughorn? An 'O' needed to get to study for Potions N.E.W.T.s is a Snape thing to do, and he wouldn't have given such a mark to Harry for anything in the world.
Not to mention that I doubt JKR would do without Snape & Harry lessons. Without their fights the story would be much lamer. - One thing that leaves me a little baffled is the fact that Dumbly is sending messages to Harry through other people. It surely doesn't raise as much attention as if it was some staff member doing it, but someone could still notice. Wouldn't it be safer if he sent them through house elves, for instance, leaving the notes on his bed right before he turns in for bed? I know that Kreachers' there now too, but...
- The lastestestest! Why does Harry still think "it was as if Snape could read his mind", or something? It's not as if we don't know the man's a Legilimens, and unless I'm mistaken (but I could easily be, especially when it comes to Ootp) Harry hasn't mastered the art himself, has he?
I think that's all, I can't remember anything else right now. Hm. I do like speculation for speculation's sake, don't I. That's part of why I tried to avoid spoiler as hard as I could... where would the fun be, then? :P

PS
on 2005-07-22 01:05 pm (UTC)About the will: it's really not important, Harry didn't need a long detailed reading of Sirius' will, the thing was ... Harry's got the house or no. WE, of course, read so fuckign much into everything, but that's what rocks about fandom :)
I wouldn't have loved it anyother way
