HBP!

So, yesterday I've received my pretty copy of HBP, and now I can go on a little more quickly.

This book is making me excited. When I'm excited, incidentally, I can't shut the hell up - and thankfully for the world, I'm reading the book alone, so the occasional squeal or comment aloud during the reading goes unnoticed - but well, I reckoned that instead of annoying one poor person alone, I could annoy all of you, so here are some thoughts about the book (until chapter 16 included, since that's as far as I've gone).

And to think that I grimace every time I see a four-lines phrase. Talk about incoherency a lot.

Anyway, these are the thoughts I've had, presented in the kind of list I seem to like so much:

  • Sirius' will. I can understand why he left everything to Harry. I can. But the fact the he left Remus completely out nags at me a bit.

(Oh, all right, not just a bit.)

(I believe the first words that crossed my mind - and came out of my mouth too, I'm afraid - were "che stronzo!" Or "che bastardo", I'm not sure which. Come to think of it, probably both.)

  • Snape in Chapter Two. That part sent me squealing. I still think he is a bit of a asshole, but he can do his job real well. (And I still don't think he's crossed sides.)

  • I am determined to chalk up any contact between Remus and Tonks to pure friendship until I actually read about them kissing. And even then I'd find a way to justify it. After all, last I checked me and a few other friends were ready to form a Denial Club, and I have reasons to doubt we would be the only ones there. :D

(No, I probably wouldn't be above saying that they're so close because Remus has told Tonks about himself and Sirius. :P AND HERE COMES IN LIZ'S FIC! BWAHAHAHAHA! Yes, I only just thought about this. I confess I was just joking until two phrases ago.)

  • As for the Half Blood Prince, the first one I thought about was, admittedly, Slughorn, but it doesn't seem likely. Slughorn would have no interest in helping someone looking great. He'd have nothing to gain that way.

As a wild guess, as I've never given the matter much thought, I'd say it's Tom. Before he found that his father was not the magical one of his parents, I doubt his hatred towards Muggles was quite so pronunciated, maybe he wouldn't have minded calling himself that. We can also add that the "pureblood prejudice" was probably already rather strong then: being a half-blood AND the best of his year, as he probably was, could be a point of pride to him. Another way to make himself different. (I'm not too sure about this, though.) And I don't know yet if I like the fact that, by all means, it looks like Tom's going to have a big disappointment about his father, and that this could be the last push to his downfall. I guess it depends on how it will be written.

  • Am I the only one to think that JKR just had to switch job positions between Snape and Slughorn? An 'O' needed to get to study for Potions N.E.W.T.s is a Snape thing to do, and he wouldn't have given such a mark to Harry for anything in the world.

Not to mention that I doubt JKR would do without Snape & Harry lessons. Without their fights the story would be much lamer.

  • One thing that leaves me a little baffled is the fact that Dumbly is sending messages to Harry through other people. It surely doesn't raise as much attention as if it was some staff member doing it, but someone could still notice. Wouldn't it be safer if he sent them through house elves, for instance, leaving the notes on his bed right before he turns in for bed? I know that Kreachers' there now too, but...

  • The lastestestest! Why does Harry still think "it was as if Snape could read his mind", or something? It's not as if we don't know the man's a Legilimens, and unless I'm mistaken (but I could easily be, especially when it comes to Ootp) Harry hasn't mastered the art himself, has he?

I think that's all, I can't remember anything else right now. Hm. I do like speculation for speculation's sake, don't I. That's part of why I tried to avoid spoiler as hard as I could... where would the fun be, then? :P

I hope I haven't left phrases hanging. It wouldn't be the first time. (Neither the last.)

(Duh? Why my mindmap is colored now? Don't you need to make a donation for that? And I'm pretty sure I haven't.)

I'm not going to comment on all your points for fear of spoiling you (I've already finished the book), but in chapter 2 I found interesting that Snape's described simply as "a man with long black hair parted in curtains around a sallow face and black eyes." No greasy hair? But when we see things through Harry's POV again, the greasiness is back. And so is the hooked nose. :P

I just got your txt :) thank you- I love you :)

1-When you're done with the book, I'll send you a couple links wiht satisfying explanations, I particularly subscribe to one of them.

2-Snape is an asshole, still he does kick ass.

3-Ni should shut up

4-Wait and see :)

5-Er... well, considering ... mmm no, that would be spoilerish... mmm...
An 'O' needed to get to study for Potions N.E.W.T.s is a Snape thing to do, and he wouldn't have given such a mark to Harry for anything in the world.
It wasn't his thing to do, Snape didn't grade the OWLS, remember there were people from the Ministry or something examining the students. If Snape had been still Potions teacher AND if Harry had got an 'O' in his Potions OWL, Snape would have been forced to allow Harry in his class.
As it is, Snapey is not the P teacher, Harry did great in Potions but not 'O'... :)

6-No important messages, just come to my office at this hour or the other... not really giving anything away.

7-Oh well... consistency? And Harry never got the chance to get too good in his lessons with Snape, did he?

I LOVE YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU I LOVE YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU I LOVE YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

At this point, I don't have the faintest idea what the hell I typed in this comment.

Hiiiiiiiiiii **

Oh, finally the books are starting to arrive -.- I haven't received it yet, but I'm not in a hurry **
As for your thoughts....

Sirius' will.

I think that will was made when Harry was still a baby. Yes, when he became his Godfather, the Marauders were still happy and well, and Remus probably had a steady income and a home and all that he needed, and so Sirius left all his possession to little Harry (otherwise everything would have gone to his family, and he sure didn't want that.) I don't think he changed his will in the years he spent outside Azkaban, I don't know how wizard wills are done but I think he needed to 'register' it someway, and he was a convicted murderer, I don't think that he could have done that being on the run and all.
So there, Remus is pennyless. Can I say that I don't think Sirius would have left anything to Remus anyway?
Mainly before Remus would have killed him (yeah, werewolf pride), but I have the impression that Remus to Sirius meant a lot lot less than Harry. Almost nothing, compared.

Snape in Chapter Two.

Can I NOT agree? He's a Master, I tell you. Potions or not.
And he's an asshole allright, and that's why I love him so much >_<

I am determined to chalk up any contact between Remus and Tonks to pure friendship until I actually read about them kissing.

Not going to comment on this one for now. But you know I like the pairing XD

As for the Half Blood Prince,

Am I the only one to think that JKR just had to switch job positions between Snape and Slughorn?

...
I'd like to discuss this with you later.

One thing that leaves me a little baffled is the fact that Dumbly is sending messages to Harry through other people.

Yes, that was quite strange, and the only explanation I can come up with is pretty stupid, but I can't tell right now u.u

The lastestestest! Why does Harry still think "it was as if Snape could read his mind", or something?

Because Harry is downright stupid ** Yes, he hasn't mastered the discipline yet. And he's a very conceited prat when it comes to Snape, doesn't even think the man could do him any damage, that's probably why Snape has been in his head tons of times and he still thinks it's power of deduction. He simply doesn't think that Snape CAN break his mental barriers like nothing, without him noticing. There's something said ahead that makes me think so, but I could be wrong and JKR did forget about Legilimency herself XD

Well, no more to add. And I just discovered London has been bombed AGAIN... Going to see if I can catch some news!

Hurry with the books, you >_

Your first point really bugged me, too. I can understand Sirius wanting Harry to have his personal belongings, the house, etc... but he already has quite a large sum of money from his parents, while Remus has absolutely nothing. It just makes more sense to give Harry all his _stuff_ and to give Remus whatever's left of the Black fortune. I mean, they were practically married best friends anyway, right? And ALSO, if Harry ever hits rock bottom, he has Hermione and Ron and about half the teaching staff who would take him in. Remus has maybe one or two people from the Order who would/could afford to help, but... poor wolfy muffin. :(

I also find it interesting how everyone was so OMGangstangst over Sirius last book, but he's hardly mentioned in this one. Yeah, there are moments of "sniff, he's gone. Oh yeah, I have a test to study for doo doo doooo" but did they ever have a memorial for him? I can't remember, but I don't think so.

On to Snape... I kinda liked him before. I appreciated his character (I love how he's such an ass to the students... breaking little hearts and dreams one at a time XD), but OMG he's awesome in this book. I love that second chapter with Narcissa. He didn't have to do that, but he did. I'm thinking, guilty-over-mass-deaths-much? Oooh, so much to say! Must... wait... until you're done! XD

It could be the 'beauty in the eye of the beholder thing'...

...but it could also be the fact that JKR didn't want to give him away immediately. ;P One thing is planting a reasonable doubt... another is flat out telling. :D

1- Send away, send away! :D

2-He does. He does. I still don't think he's evil, actually. :D

3-Ni shouldn't, and that's a fact. ;P

4-Hehehehe! :D :D :D Well.. at least part of the reasoning still applies, right? ;P

5-...
Oh, how much I don't remember of Ootp. I had completely forgot about that.

6-Yes... but someone could have opened the note. I don't remember every messenger, though... and evidently it was an empty worry. :D

MWAH! Off to read all your entries. ::SMOOOOCH::!

Oh, and about The Thing We Know, yesterday I've decided. :D Now, the matter is... do you want to be spoiled? ;P

LOVE YOU!

1-here and this one. Both versions work for me.

2-Not at all :)

5-I read OotP just once, so I don't know why I remember those things... but I do.. so... weird.

Don't be evil! And yes, I want to be spoiled. PLEASE.

I love you *hugs*

This is my favorite HBP art :)

About the will: it's really not important, Harry didn't need a long detailed reading of Sirius' will, the thing was ... Harry's got the house or no. WE, of course, read so fuckign much into everything, but that's what rocks about fandom :)

I wouldn't have loved it anyother way

Thank you! I have them open, but I *cough* doubt I'll read them right now. I really have to learn to better organize my time.

About Ootp... everytime I see someone talking about it, I'm amazed at how much I don't remember. Take Bill/Fleur, for instance. Up to when I read about them in HBP, I was sure that I kept seeing they going out together in fanfictions so often just because they were a popular pairing, or something.

(Just read Thunderemerald's story, and yes, I hope it went like this. Gee, I feel childish, but seeing that she's using a ReTarded icon is irking me. I don't know whether curse or thank my slow reflex when it comes to canon/fanon.)
