Okay. It's late at night, just got back from a (v. v. successfull) graduation dinner, I'm feeling fairly tipsy (but not too awfully much) and this morning I finally finished DH.

And about said Deathly Hallows, there is just one thing I really want to say.

TEDDY REMUS LUPIN? Oh man, thank god she made you die, I live IN FEAR of what she would have made you do if you hadn't. Died, that is. Oh man oh man oh man. You just don't fuction if you don't have Sirius around. I mean - TEDDY. TEDDY. REMUS LUPIN (which was bad already) NAMING HIS SON LIKE A TEDDY BEAR.

(Also, Teddy my dear, snog any girl you like. You've got your father's blood. You won't be doing that for long.)

And the epilogue. We do not talk about the epilogue.

(Was I the only one who thought that JKR made up a grand total of three names and kept using them again and again (and again and again and again)? I was pretty relieved to see that Ron had not named his own Fred. Poor, poor Albus Severus. He's going to need so much therapy once he grows up.)

Oh, and you know, I was mostly sold on the "Harry's got to die" theory - I was one of those who'd suspected it for quite a while. I would have bought it completely, if it wasn't for the fact that I kept fingering the pages left until the end. There were just too many of them.

And where the hell was Draco for most of the book? I was sincerely expecting to see a lot more of him.

For the record, there was only one character that was simply not allowed to die - and that was Neville. Oh, I've never loved the boy that much.

I howled with laughter once I got over the epilogue. Because it is just that. bad.

Also, how telling was it that Remus reappeared to Harry with his three closest mates- Sirius, James and Lily- and not his, erm, wife? That was so telling to me and it isn't because she wouldn't have been there anyway, but it clearly suggests (along with Lupin wanting to adventure with H/R/H) that he really emotionally never progressed beyond his teen self. I guess it makes sense- those were arguably the best years of his life. But man, how fucking telling. Lana and I were all over this when we talked about the book. Sad.

OH MY GOD YES.

It was just - take the "Lupin wanting to adventure with H/R/H" thing. In that dialogue, all four of them were talking like equals. Where equals stands for 17-year-olds. It's just... I don't know, is there a single adult character she didn't belittle, in any of the books? Maybe McGoogles. At most.

Well, to be perfectly honest, I really like the name Teddy - though I associate it with Theodore Laurence of Little Women (as played by Christian Bale in the 1994 film) rather than with anything furry and stuffed, which I think helps. But the entire concept of Remus Lupin reproducing is, in turns, comical and disturbing to me.

Speaking of Teddy taking after his father as concerns certain preferences, my friend recommended me this story to help me with my heteronormativity-induced frustration.

I was expecting a Jane Austen-style epilogue, with a very straightforward and somewhat distanced 'So-and-so went on to do x, y, and z'. What I got was a horrific procreation-fest.

Having been avoiding spoilers, you've probably not seen the bets being placed on the names of Harry's next children. Last I checked, Hedwig Dobby was a popular choice. Oh, and I'm guessing the reason Ron didn't name his son Fred is that George had already taken it for his kid, according to an interview with Jo. Good grief.

I was totally with Rowling through the entire 'I must die' sequence. God, that scene in the woods was breathtaking.

And Neville! He thoroughly rocked in this book. I can't wait to see Matt Lewis in the seventh film - he's the one actor whose performance usurped my original idea of the character.

To be honest, I was already bothered by Ted - I so did not like the whole "naming new kids after the just-dead people" thing, already before the epilogue, but... I couldn't help thinking about teddy bears. Though I suppose there's a fair chance I was influenced by a badfic I was told about (http://kasche.livejournal.com/111229.html#cutid1), a while ago. As for Remus procreating... I so wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that R and T had sex exactly once, and with a condom. Which broke.

Thank you for the rec! :D I've saved the chapters, I'll read it once I get enough time alone. :3

Bwahahaha! Oh, I would have LOVED a Hedwig Dobby! Poor house elf, I suppose it was sad for him to end like that, but I can't deny I've wished him dead more than once.

I loved, loved, loved Neville in this book.

I got sucked into likely Teddy/James by [livejournal.com profile] copperbage.

I think for me it was Percy, Luna, and Neville that weren't allowed to die in this book or else I would have never forgiven JoK.

Oh, and I'd like to point out that I tried picturing Tonks and Remus having sex.

Yeah, uh, I pretty much could not breathe from hysterical laughter. At first it made me sick, but now that I think about it it's kinda funny.

I wonder what Sirius would say about that. I seriously want someone to do something like that. :|
That's not angsty.
I don't care if it's a crackfic, I just want someone to do something like that.

Now I believe I am done. lawl.

I agree with all of the things you said and would like to add my dismay at the Weasleys seeding the wizarding gene pool. 'We are the Weasleys. You will be assimilated.'

As to Teddy having Remus' genes (and some that Sirius had, if you think about it!), may I shamelessly point you to my own take on that (http://community.livejournal.com/remusxsirius/2497199.html)?

I'll add my nonbiased (or somewhat less biased, when one considers my shipping habits) encouragement to read that fic!

After I read your parenthetical statement about Teddy's genes, I started trying to figure out how one supports the theory that Teddy is actually Remus and Sirius's love child. (Hey, it's only slightly crazier than my stance that he's Tonks and Charlie's.)

I agree with you 100%. Did Ginny have no choice in the names? OMG there is going to have to be serious therapy. What the hell happened to everyone after the war? What happened to no more questions about anyone and no need for a prequel? Yeah, I was irritated to say the least.

I agree with Teddy Lupin's name, what the hell is up with naming people after dead people? OMG your dad, mom, mentor, and greasy haired teacher who lurved your mom all died... let's name everybody after the dead things. She said in the interview George named his son Fred, creepy.

I wish Harry would have died to get rid of Voldemort's soul.

I heart Neville.

I thought it was going to be like a newspaper thing or Harry writing his memoirs as a really really really old guy.

And here's one for you: Harry says why doesn't Teddy just move in he eats at the house four nights a week. Was he not the godfather? Who got the kid? Andromeda? Didn't he have/want visitation?

So many questions... so much disappointment and patheticness.

REMUS LUPIN (which was bad already) NAMING HIS SON LIKE A TEDDY BEAR.

And not just any teddy bear, but a novelty talking teddy bear from the 1980s!

Yeah, seriously, I burst out laughing when I read that name. Remus, what were you thinking?

Neville, however, is a total badass and I love him.

erm, WORD.

tho i found myself almost wishing Harry had died (properly) after reading the Epilogue- my actual response was a rather loud 'WTF?!' (dad thinks i'm totally mental now!)

I was just happy to let the rest of the book wash over me once Remus died in the suckiest death since Sirius...

but GO NEVILLE! hehe

Oh dear, you're more than right. When I read that name - Teddy - I was like "whatthefuckinghell---!?".
I still can't believe she actually called him that name. I mean... why didn't she call him Wolfie's son or puppy dog or... oh god there are a thousands of perfect name for Remus's son and she called him TEDDY!!! That's so unfair. But at least she killed Remus so that he can see Sirius again. <3 (The only comfort there, it is.)

About Draco... I didnt bother about him that much. But I actually thought there would be a bit more of him...

Why what is it with the epilogue? Come on it's perfect! You see them all perfect, Lily and James are back again (indirectly), Draco and Harry are no more enemies, everything's fine... I knew JKR would make shit of it, for HP was in the end nothing more than a book for children...
of course you're right, I was so disappointed... there really, really were some scences in the book I thought Harry was going to die (for example the visit of his parent's graveyards (he wished he could sleep under the snow with them - still makes me shudder) or the walk to VD and the ressurection stone scene) but it would have been to great to be true. Well I'm not actually so keen on seeing Harry dying but... I was lost for words, that epilogue was utter crap. sorry there.

here here to everything. And might I add I was so pleased when it was James, Lily, Lupin and Sirius who showed up for Harry. No one else. It doesn't matter if that really has no significance in a coupling sort of way...I still think it was sweet-awesome and very Sirius/Remus loving. also, you're great.
